Outrage against Easy Finder magazine for publishing risque pictures of Twins singer Gillian Chung Yan-tung has swelled.

As of yesterday, the Television and Licensing Authority (Tela) had received 812 complaints from the public.

The Canto-pop idol was photographed by a hidden camera while changing backstage after a concert in Malaysia.

The pictures appeared in  the edition of Easy Finder that hit the streets on Tuesday.

Copies of the magazine sold out, as did reprint copies, even as the singer's manager vowed to take legal action at a 'higher level'.

Emperor Entertainment Group's artiste management division director Mani Fok Man-hei said the magazine had been asked to surrender all copies of the pictures.

But Easy Finder had not replied to a lawyers' letter sent on Tuesday.

'We feel that the magazine has shown no regret or  remorse as they have printed extra copies. We are taking our legal action to a higher level,' she said, without specifying what that action might be.

The other half of the Twins, Charlene Choi Cheuk-yin,  was also in the dressing room but was shielded from the camera by Chung.

Ms Fok said  the company and the staff at Arena of Stars in Genting, a popular Canto-pop venue, were investigating how the camera came to be hidden in the dressing room. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the case may be reported to the police.

She said that in light of the incident security measures for the duo would be tightened.

Veteran singer Paula Tsui Siu-fung  is playing two shows at the venue, today  and tomorrow.

Chung, who is filming  an action movie, Let's Steal Together, in Shenzhen, will return to Hong Kong this weekend.

Ms Fok said the singer had  recovered from the shock and was occupied with her busy filming schedule.

'But her spirit is low. She has been on day and night shifts so she hardly gets any sleep,' said Ms Fok, adding that the increased media attention was also taking its toll.

However, her ordeal is not over as the pictures have already been uploaded to the internet.

Eric Tsang Chi-wai, chairman of the Hong Kong Performing Artists Guild, condemned Easy Finder for running the pictures.

'This is very serious. Many of our members have complained to us,'  he said. The guild  is considering what action to take.

Tela  said  the case had been submitted yesterday to the Obscene Articles Tribunal, which would classify the magazine's issue within five days.

Social groups such as the Hong Kong Women Development Association continued to  register their outrage against Easy Finder yesterday, condemning the magazine for damaging women's dignity.

Easy Finder belongs to the Next Media group which also publishes Next magazine and Apple Daily.
