The English language website on Chengdu's Panda World ( www.pandaworld.cn ) was launched recently in the American city of Atlanta, Georgia. The website was set up by Chengdu Panda Culture Media Company, and integrates news, information, entertainment, tourism, popular science and academic knowledge in relation to giant pandas. It also has links to the Panda City Union and zoos around the world that house pandas. The idea behind the site is to enable people from all over the world to gain a better understanding of the life, reproduction and conservation of pandas. People can make donations through the website to support giant pandas in Chengdu, China. It also allows potential visitors to book a trip to Chengdu to visit the pandas. Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan and is well known for its panda population. The city also has a Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre and a Giant Panda Museum. The mirror site was developed in the United States, with similar sites to be opened in other parts of the world. A Chinese-language website will be launched in the future, based on the English version.
