AN emphasis on human resources and teamwork can help improve company competence, says computer hardware assembler Maxtor (Hong Kong) which has been awarded the 1993 Governor's Award for Industry: Productivity.
''It will be difficult to operate well without good people,'' managing director Tse Kin-wah said yesterday.
He said people were the most important asset to a company, and attributed Maxtor's winning the award to its emphasis on team work.
''Our strength lies in our co-operative team spirit, with staff in high morale.
''All employees have a sense of involvement. That's why for our staff, problems are no problem. We face and solve them together.'' Staff keenness to work would help a company attain a higher level of competence, productivity and thus competitiveness in the market, he said.
A team spirit would help a company's operation, as Maxtor demonstrated when it brought its management system in line with the ISO 9000 standard.
