Getting a new Mac is an exciting prospect - what with better performance, new productivity tools and, of course, the extra 'cool factor' anything Apple inevitably brings.
But the real joy of computing comes from the gadgets we can plug into our machines.
The precise monitor speakers blasting our favourite tunes, editing files from our state-of-the-art digital camera, creating our next musical hit with our digital piano keyboard or printing our art on huge new printers.
Yes, this is where the real joy is - creating spectacular new things.
Unfortunately, there never seems to be enough tools to plug into my Mac so when I discover a new one I'm giddy with excitement for days. This week I discovered three! What can I say? I'm one happy Mac camper. The first is a useful and liberating piece of wireless technology. The Wacom company, which makes professional graphics drawing tablets, has announced a drawing tablet that is not connected to your Mac by a cable. Its Graphire 6X8 model (US$249.95) utilises Bluetooth for its wireless connection. The idea of not being leashed to your Mac is incredibly empowering. Now it's ready for presentations and public demonstrations and even sketching while lounging on the sofa. This is the advancement that will have many users adopting the tablet as their interface medium of choice over the mouse.
