GREEN SUPREME (Nap) strikes me as ready to step up on his three runs to date this season and looks worth a bet in tonight's third race at Sha Tin. This son of Lucky North was actually the first griffin winner of the season 12 months ago and is only now beginning to come back to himself after a bit of trouble with sore shins and then a fiery temperament.
Last time out he shaped with considerable promise when running on from a long way back to finish strongly for fourth behind Leprechaun. That good effort came over 1,200 metres but the way he went to the line suggested that he would do even better when pushed up to 1,400 metres - the trip he races over this evening.
Apprentice Danny L. T. Leung has the ride. He's a fair five-pound claimer and his presence on board should ensure a couple of extra points on Green Supreme's starting price. My best quinella comes in the night's fifth event.
I'm sticking with Bruce Hutchison's Mughal Prince as one of the three legs to my old favourite triangular quinella bet. Mughal Prince cantered home last time out over course and distance and that form is working out really well indeed. Tell Me Win has always shown a fair amount of ability and has now slipped down to a mark where he can do something. Don't leave him out. And watch out for Top Glory who has plenty of ability, who is starting for Alex Wong Yu-on for the first time.
