Rip off and roll

Hongkongers familiar with being ripped off at rock concerts can probably sympathise with the plight of those at the recent V Festivals in Staffordshire and Essex, Britain.

We may be used to paying outrageous prices for drinks and tickets - anyone remember the Eagles seats that sold for HK$2,750, or HK$3,880 for Pavarotti? - but at least local promoters usually throw in a programme for free.

This wasn't the case at V, however, where punters were forced to cough up #10 (HK$146) for a programme.

One festival-goer, Exeter resident Chris Ralph, told BBCi that parting with #10 was the only way to find out where and when the bands were playing.

'I looked online, but there was no lineup there,' said the 41-year-old. Another music fan, Chris Collins, from north London, said: 'There were no boards next to the arenas to tell you who was on where.'
