Updated at 1.54pm: A father and his baby daughter were killed after being knocked down by a light goods vehicle in Central, police said on Friday. A spokesman said the accident took place about 8.50am when the light goods vehicle was reversing at Po Hing Fong. ?It reportedly knocked down the 36-year-old man who was holding his 11-month-old daughter in his hands and crossing the road,? the spokesman said. The baby girl suffered serious head injuries. She was certified dead at the scene by ambulancemen. Her father was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital but was certified dead at 9.52am, the spokesman said. The 26-year-old male driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. ?He is still being detained for inquiries,? the spokesman said. ?Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are proceeding.? The spokesman urged witnesses to the accident to contact police officers on tel: 3106-8848 or 3106-8800. This was the second fatal accident in two days involving a goods vehicle backing. On Thursday a 75-year-old woman died and three others were injured after a parked truck rolled back onto a footpath in Sai Wan. She was killed after her abdomen was severely lacerated by a sharp piece of metal protruding from the rear of the truck. The four had been among people queuing outside a nearby shop.
