Wedding belle fuels marriage fever

All of a sudden it seems the city's wedding business is booming. Last Thursday, New York designer Romona Keveza (left) was in town to launch Wedding Magazine at Cyberport. Keveza, who has won the Couture Bridal Award for Best Classic Designer of the Year for three years, has dressed actresses Julia Roberts, Marisa Tomei and Penelope Ann Miller.

'The advice that I would give to an actress is the same as I would give to anyone: that is to stay true to who you are. Then choose the best quality fabric and best cutting, and keep your evening gowns very simple,' Keveza says.

As who wears what is always one of the hottest topic at almost every film festival or award ceremony, she says there is invisible pressure on the stars.

'That's huge pressure, as the press will judge you very critically. You have to choose wisely.'

Apart from Keveza, a show of Oscar de la Renta wedding gowns was shipped to Hong Kong to mark the recent opening of Central Weddings at the Landmark. Their spokeswoman says the collection was in town so brides from Hong Kong and throughout Asia could try on the gowns without having to travel back and forth to the US. Hong Kong's Barney Cheng Siu-leung also opened a retail outlet in Central two months ago specialising in wedding gowns.
