Q What do you think of the design of the new Star Ferry complex?
Confused and disconnected. That is how I feel about the new Star Ferry Pier, or is it the Central Ferry Pier which is stated in big red letters on the new clock tower. Is it Central Ferry Pier? If so, central to what? What is 'Central Hong Kong' anyway?
Well, whatever it is and wherever it is, the new ferry pier is not Central to anything as far as I am concerned and will involve so much more walking to get anywhere that I simply cannot see the point.
The harbour should have been filled in until that 1.27km distance was connected well and truly to Tsim Sha Tsui and then we could all have driven over it. That's what I call connected.
The Edwardian copy building, no matter what anyone says it is, looks cheap, tacky and very out of place on Hong Kong's harbour, which prides itself (seemingly) on cutting-edge, futuristic, modern design.
Oh, except for that tiled monstrosity on Kowloon side, the Cultural Centre.
The walkway to get to Central Pier (or is it Star Ferry Pier? I cannot wait to be enlightened on this) is hopefully going to be one of those automatic electric walkways because that walk has always been tedious and fatiguing. There is no dialogue between this walkway and the new pier building and, if one looks closely, the bridge just abruptly comes to an end and does not merge graciously into the new structure. And it's blue!
