Wu to lead HK charge

Asian champion Wu Siu-hong will lead the local challenge at the Hong Kong International Open Championships which start today at the South China Athletic Association Bowling Centre.

Wu won the men's masters gold medal in the Asian Championships in Indonesia last month.

Wu, along with Cyrus Cheung Chun-chung, Wicky Yeung Wai-ki and Daniel Yiu Man-yau, are in Pusan, South Korea, representing Hong Kong at the world championships. They are due to return tomorrow to compete for a berth in the men's masters competition which starts next Friday,

The nine-day Hong Kong Open is the final leg of the Asia Bowling Federation tour. It has attracted world-class bowlers, such as Asian Games triple gold medallist Remy Ong of Singapore and world youth champion Yannaphon Larpapharat from Thailand.

In the women's competition, Hong Kong challengers include Vanessa Fung Suet-yee, Janet Lam Yim, Joey Yip Ka-yan and Sylvia Kong.
