A man was arrested on suspicion of igniting a petrol bomb, injuring himself and two male employees of a finance company in Wan Chai yesterday.
The man, surnamed Ku, aged 33, ran out of the 16th-floor office of Workingview Commercial Building in Yiu Wa Street with his upper body alight after the alleged attack shortly before 5pm.
Police said the suspect, whose arm was injured, was intercepted by police on the second-floor staircase.
The two employees, aged 21 and 32, suffered burns to their faces, hands and chests. All three were taken to Ruttonjee Hospital and later transferred to Queen Mary Hospital.
Last night, the 32-year-old employee, surnamed Ng, was in a critical condition, while the suspect and the 21-year-old, surnamed Chiu, were in stable condition.
Initial investigations showed the suspect wanted to borrow $6,000 from the finance company, according to a police source. The company, which opened three months ago, occupies a 100 sq ft office.
