Mosquito repellents that come with sunscreen as a two-in-one product are convenient but might not perform well, the Consumer Council said. Used primarily as a mosquito repellent, they might not offer enough protection from the sun. Used as a sunscreen, too much repellent would be applied.

'Insect repellents do not need to be applied as frequently as sunscreen, so you might apply excessive repellent if you use it as sunscreen,' said Ching Pak-chung, vice-chairman of the council's public and community relations committee.

He suggested consumers apply sunscreen first then mosquito repellent for the best protection.
