Australian jockey Chris Munce accepted advantages totalling more than HK$500,000 after providing racing tips to others, Eastern Court heard yesterday.
The ICAC held 'surveillance evidence' of a meeting between Munce and businessman Andy Lau Wai-ching, and HK$250,000 in cash was found on the jockey, senior government counsel Marco Li said.
Mr Li said two other conspirators, Dinesh Kumar Daswani and Kamal Govindram Daswaney, would testify as prosecution witnesses against the jockey.
Munce, 37, entered no plea to one count of conspiracy to accept advantages, between December 14 and July 3.
Mr Li said the alleged advantage Munce accepted included three betting dividends and his offence 'goes to the heart of the integrity of horse racing in Hong Kong'.
Magistrate David Thomas released the Australian on HK$100,000 in cash bail and a HK$100,000 cash surety until October 6 for a plea to be taken in the District Court.
