Organisations that help protect animals

There are several organisations in Hong Kong which help stray and abandoned animals find new homes and are devoted to the promotion of animal welfare.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)

Besides providing temporary shelter for homeless animals, the SPCA aims to raise awareness of animal protection among the public. The SPCA organsises fund-raising campaigns and vists schools to give talks on animal welfare.

Society for Abandoned Animals (SAA)

Located in Yuen Long, the organisation has organised a 'Trap/Neuter/Return' campaign to control the swelling population of stray animals. As opposed to the 'Catch and Kill' policy adopted by the Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the SAA hopes to minimise the nuisance caused by strays to residents through a more humane policy.
