Ms Tung was voted second runner-up in a fashion design competition jointly organised by Lane Crawford and PolyU. She is working as an intern in Esquel Group, a manufacturer of men's shirts for companies such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Polo Ralph Lauren.

What are the must-have fashion items for girls?

A scarf or shrug will help you cope with the freezing indoor temperatures. Colourful scarves will liven up the dark clothes which are in vogue this  season. You can buy tie-dye scarves from Neighbour (39

What key items to buy if you're on budget?

It's worth investing in timeless items such as jeans, because you can wear them for many years and many occasions.  If you're on a budget, go for simple tops from U2 or Giordano.

How  do you select good jeans?

A lot of Hong Kong girls wear loose, baggy jeans to hide the fat on their legs. But this actually makes them look bulkier. Opt for straight-legged jeans to even out your legs' proportion.

Local brand Blue Heroes offers jeans in various cuts. There's a style to suit everybody. Remember to wear tops which are long enough to cover your waist.

What are the hit items for autumn?

Flared skirts. They hide your hips and thighs if you don't want to show them off. Zara has  a great selection, for casual and formal wear.
