Taxi and van drivers are still unhappy with a revised scheme aimed at cleaning up transport operations around the passenger terminal at the airport.

The van operators are upset because they will have to pay to load and unload at a new area.

The cab drivers say the plan does not go far enough. They want one that will stop the light goods vehicles illegally competing with them for passengers across the city.

Transport, police and airport authority officials have proposed a loading area for vans be provided next to the government car park.

The vans would pay HK$40 for the first 30 minutes, HK$60 for the second and HK$80 for the third.

Under a previous scheme - also rejected by both parties - the vans would have had 10 minutes' free unloading at designated areas.

Officials will also ban the use of car parks one and four in the terminal area by both taxis and light goods vehicles which have been accused of making use of free parking to solicit passengers and unload. Instead, they can only use car park five, near passenger terminal two.
