PolyVision Eyecare Centre, a subsidiary of Polytechnic University, opened a new centre last month in Mong Kok. The centre offers the same services as its Wan Chai branch, although the premises are smaller. Services include comprehensive eye examinations, colour vision assessment and vision therapy, which is designed to improve vision irregularities such as abnormal eye movements and squinting.
PolyVision highlights eye examinations for children and for those approaching middle age. The centre says ethnic Chinese are genetically prone to myopia. Lifestyle changes, such as the increased use of computers, have exacerbated the problem.
Children's eyesight changes until they are about eight years old. Once their eyes are fully grown, conditions such as lazy eye and squinting can be more difficult to rectify. For this reason, the centre recommends that eye examinations begin from the age of three so that irregularities can be detected early.
Different problems begin to occur after the age of 40, such as presbyopia, cataracts and other retinal disorders. Early detection of these and other visual problems can be detected by specific eye examinations.
