Updated at 1.24pm: An elderly man was killed after being knocked down by a car in Sheung Shui on Friday, in a second fatal accident in the area in two days. A police spokesman said the latest accident involved a 79-year-old man, who was hit by a light-goods vehicle while crossing Sha Tau Kok Road about 7.45am. The car, driven by a 32-year-old man, had been travelling southwards along Luen On Street before reaching the junction with Sha Tau Kok Road. The older man suffered serious head and hand injuries. He was rushed to North District Hospital, but was certified dead at 8.17am. Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North are proceeding. This was the second fatal accident in Sheung Shui recently. On Thursday, a 73-year-old woman was killed by a taxi while crossing Castle Peak Road near Kwu Tung. Police said the taxi did not stop and fled the scene after the accident. The spokesman urged people who might have witnessed the accident to contact officers on tel: 2675-3325.
