A former scaffolder who fell 12 metres at a building site was yesterday awarded more than HK$6 million.

Ho Ho-ming lost almost all use of his left arm in the November 2000 fall as he was dismantling scaffolding at the site for Olympic station.

Mr Justice Azizul Suffiad found in the Court of First Instance that Mr Ho's employers, Tse Po-wah and Kwan Po-tim, had failed to supply him with a safety belt.

The judge also found World Pacific Scaffolding Works, which contracted out to Mr Tse and Mr Kwan, had failed to provide lifelines for workers on the building's exterior.

Main contractor Hyundai Engineering & Construction was also found liable for the omissions.

Mr Justice Suffiad rejected the arguments of all three defendants, awarding Mr Ho compensation of HK$6,659,762.
