Residents of districts that have been chosen for a pilot scheme to allow their councillors more say on how to run community facilities yesterday gave the idea a thumbs-up.

Most said they wanted longer service hours, while others hoped their elected representatives could help cut red tape after taking over the management of the facilities.

In Wan Chai, Form Four pupil Josephine Chan said she and many classmates wanted study rooms in libraries to remain open longer.

'Especially during holidays, most students are free, but they shorten the opening hours,' the student said.

According to notices posted outside Wan Chai public library, opening hours for the National Day holiday tomorrow and the Mid-Autumn Festival next Saturday will be 10am to 5pm.
