Career development at a young age is crucial and can set you up for life if you can demonstrate your potential early. MTR Corporation's revamped Graduate Trainee Scheme affords graduates this opportunity.

The three-year programme is designed to develop the railway and property company's future talents by exposing them to at least two functional areas, depending on their profile and aspirations.

Almost all of MTR's departments, including property, engineering, operations, marketing, corporate relations, human resources and finance, support the training of graduates.

MTR plans to recruit, for next year's roster, 10 graduates from Hong Kong, and for the first time, 10 from the mainland. It will also recruit other overseas graduates from top universities.

'The programme's ultimate objective is to grow our future leaders. For those who demonstrate potential, aspiration and capability, they will become the corporation's home-grown executives in about 10 to 15 years,' said Iris Cheng, manager - career development at MTR.

Graduate trainees will first undergo a four-week intensive induction programme, at which they will be briefed by senior managers on the company's operations, business challenges and the way forward.

They will then take part in team-building exercises to create a strong bond among themselves before being assigned job placements.
