honda and mazda recall faulty vehicles

Honda is recalling 240,000 vehicles in the Life, Odyssey and Civic models. Mazda is recalling also 12,000 vehicles in three models, because the airbag system could activate erroneously. Honda said 153,000 Life mini vehicles produced between August 2003 and September 2004 could have air conditioning defects that can cause the engine to cut out or overheat. About 85,000 Odysseys made between August 2001 and July 2003 have problems with their rear wiper systems, while about 9,700 Civics and Civic Hybrid cars made between August 2005 and January have defects with their power steering. Mazda is recalling 12,000 Premacy and Atenza models and Ford's Ixion. The vehicles were made between March 1999 and July 2002. Most of the cars were made in Japan but it is not known how many of the vehicles were sold in Hong Kong.

Technicians slammed over new internet data leak

Lawmaker Sin Chung-kai branded the government's information services technicians unprofessional yesterday after it admitted it inadvertently leaked the personal information of 3,424 people onto the internet in May from a database run by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Mr Sin, who represents the information technology sector, urged the government to conduct regular security reviews with its online systems and hire qualified information services professionals. The department has received 145 inquiries about the leak but there have been no complaints.

25th case of dengue fever

A woman came down with dengue fever after a visit to the Philippines, bringing the number of cases to 25 this year. All the victims contracted the disease outside Hong Kong.
