Streets are full of fun and games

Little ones are in for a treat on Toys 'R' Us Street with its jumping castle, parades, stalls and mini grand prix

FAMILIES AND CHILDREN are the main focus for daytime activities during the carnival weekend. Children have a street full of games and activities to experience on Toys 'R' Us Street. Better known as Wo On Lane for the other 363 days of the year, during the carnival weekend this usually quiet street between the Lok Hing Lane amphitheatre and D'Aguilar Street will be transformed into a fairground.

Director of marketing for Toys 'R' Us Asia, Argha Sen, says the toy company's participation in the Lan Kwai Fong Carnival has 'a great synergy'.

'During the day it's completely a family event. For us it's a chance to take the Toys 'R' Us experience out into the street. The primary objective is to entertain kids and families.'

With this aim in mind, there will be 20 stalls along the Toys 'R' Us Street, including 10 game booths, a bouncy castle and lots of other activities.

The children's carnival promises to be more interactive than previous years, with opportunities to win prizes, free gifts and discount vouchers for the new Toys 'R' Us store in Queen's Road, Central.

Computer game fans will be able to try out the latest versions of PlayStation, Xbox and Let's Play TV.

Toys 'R' Us Street will have its own mini-parade featuring cartoon characters including Geoffrey, the store's huge huggable giraffe, which is 'a great favourite with kids', according to Mr Sen.

Given the space available, there will be a surprising number of activities and toys to try out. A mini grand prix is planned with a range of radio- controlled cars to choose from.

'We have a racetrack so that kids can race against each other,' Mr Sen says. As with all the other game booths on the streets, the grand prix is free to enter.

The Toys 'R' Us Street is open from noon until 11pm for the two days of the carnival. Mr Sen promises there will be something for all ages. 'There will be 15-minute magic shows, a book reading corner, dancers and face painting.'

In keeping with the more interactive approach to this year's children's carnival, Toys 'R' Us has also teamed up with Kidz Gallery to organise a 'giant painting activity'.

'Kids are welcome to come and dabble with paint and colour,' Mr Sen says.

The paintings will be displayed at Toys 'R' Us stores across Hong Kong after the carnival is over.
