Brett Prebble suffered a triple penalty on rising star All's Well in the Sha Tin Sprint Trophy.
Not only did the Australian experience the pain of defeat on a horse that should have won, he was also found guilty by the stewards on two counts of careless riding.
Prebble pleaded guilty to the first charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 metres, he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount, which was hanging out, from shifting ground when not clear of Royal Delight (Shane Dye), causing that horse to lose his rightful running and be checked.
The two-time Melbourne premiership winner was suspended from riding in races for two meetings and fined HK$35,000 in lieu of a third meeting.
However, stewards then levelled a second charge against Prebble (pictured), alleging he was additionally careless on All's Well around 50m from home, when he again 'failed to take sufficient measures' to prevent his mount from shifting ground when not clear of Natural Blitz, causing the Hong Kong Sprint winner to be checked severely.
Prebble pleaded not guilty to this charge, maintaining that it was the erratic running of All's Well that was the problem and pointing out that shortly after the winning post, the gelding almost hit the outside running rail.
