INVESTORS in the Australian state of Queensland have been offered a new area in which to make money. For A$46,000 (about HK$240,700) each they can buy themselves strata-titled car parking spaces with a guaranteed initial rental return of A$3,220 or seven per cent. The central business district (CBD) Brisbane Festival car park area, with its inner-city parking spaces, is on a site worth nearly A$18 million. The Seymour Group bought Kings' car parking interest in New South Wales and Queensland in September last year, and owner Kevin Seymour plans to add 20 big CBD car parks along the Australian east coast to his holdings. The income on the parking bays is indexed to rise by three per cent each year over a 10-year period and is payable yearly in advance. So far, almost half the available 380 Festival car parking bays have been sold.
