Q How can parents stay calm when communicating with children?
I was appalled to learn about the seven-year-old girl who had been slashed by her mother. Luckily, it was only her left middle finger that was injured. And although the injury may have been an accident, it still revealed how furious the mother was.
It appears the girl ignored repeated calls to finish her homework, and the mother flew into a rage. I doubt the girl was disobedient or the mother so powerless.
However, we should not blame the mother since she is young, a new immigrant, and lacked support.
The case highlights a lack of knowledge in parenting in our society. I think more seminars and talks should be held for parents-to-be or even long-time parents in our district community halls.
Our government encourages us to have more children but allocates meagre resources to teach us how to raise them.
