The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has named its hotel and tourism resource centre after K Wah Group chairman Lui Che-woo. Dr Lui has donated HK$14 million to PolyU's School of Hotel and Tourism Management to support its efforts in enhancing the professionalism of hotel services in China. Part of the donation will be used to establish scholarships for 10 students to gain a year's work experience in hotels overseas or on the mainland. The rest will be spent on supporting research, holding forums and training the school's teaching staff. Dr Lui said that Hong Kong and Macau have their own strengths and a unique position as tourist destinations. He added that the economy of both cities would benefit from further development and co-operation. As the founder of the K Wah Group, Dr Lui has contributed to the hotel, property development and construction materials industries over the past 50 years. The group has recently branched into the gaming industry in Macau.
