Macau seen as a more important market than HK
Macau has seen a steady increase in the number of luxury cars on its streets on the back of its booming casino industry and increasingly wealthy young people.
And dealers in the former Portugal enclave see the market as overshadowing Hong Kong in terms of growth potential.
Zung Fu Motors (Macau), which accounts for more than 40 per cent of the city's luxury car market, expected to sell 360 Mercedes-Benz models this year, compared to 325 last year, said general manager Haslam Preeston.
The only authorised Mercedes dealer in Macau, the company sold 285 Mercedes cars in the first nine months of the year. One big buyer, Galaxy Entertainment, recently ordered a fleet of 20 for its VIP gaming halls.
Luxury car registrations rose from 725 in 2003 to 794 last year.
While Mercedes are believed to be favoured by most mainland high-rollers, and thus most Macau casinos, the newly opened Wynn Macau recently bought six BMWs for its VIP guests.
