When Gordon Tam Kai-yuen went to the US to study computer science in 1966, he would work from midnight until 8am before attending classes all day. It was the only way he could afford his tuition fees at Iowa State University.

Now retired after becoming vice-president for a computer company, Mr Tam and his wife Elsie, also a computer specialist, are helping local students achieve their dreams of studying in the US.

The couple is providing two scholarships worth US$5,000 each year to help Hong Kong students who have been accepted into an American university.

The Tams have provided seven scholarships to Hong Kong students since they established the GET Foundation in 1999.

Applications for next year's scholarships close on April 15. Visit www.thegetfoundation.com
