Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Design is one of the best top 60 in the world, according to a Business Week survey believed to be the first of its kind.

PolyU's design school was rated one of the top four in China and among the top 10 in Asia in a report published this week.

Of the design schools that made the top 60, 34 were in the US or Canada and 26 were in Europe or Asia.

School of Design director Professor Lorraine Justice said the rating confirmed PolyU was heading in the right direction.

'Building on Hong Kong's unique position in China and Asia, we believe good design education and research can help advance the Chinese economy,' she said.

The top 60 was based on recommendations from an advisory board comprising major companies such as Siemens, Whirlpool and BMW.
