Social work unions have taken the unprecedented step of staging a joint campaign for the Election Committee election in December.
The 24 contenders for the 40-seat social services sub-sector in the election say they will vote en masse in next March's chief executive election for the candidate who supports their platforms.
These include a minimum-wage law and universal suffrage by 2012.
Social Workers' General Union president Peter Cheung Kwok-che said Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen would have to show more commitment to win their support for a second term,
'We wouldn't have mapped out the platform if Mr Tsang had done enough. We think his performance is not good enough so far,' Mr Cheung said.
This is the first time most of the social workers' unions have formed a united front to win seats on the 800-strong committee to return the chief executive next year. Mr Cheung said the 24 contenders represented most social workers' unions.
