Government names third accountant to the commission's top management
The government has named former PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Eddy Fong as the first non-executive chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission, adding a third accounting professional to the agency's top ranks.
Chief executive Martin Wheatley is a qualified accountant and newly appointed chief operating officer Paul Kennedy is a former managing partner of KPMG's Shanghai office.
'We have seen many corporate scandals related to accounting problems,' said financial sector legislator Chim Pui-chung. 'This is a good sign.'
Mr Fong worked for the now defunct Arthur Andersen in London before moving to Hong Kong in 1973. A year later, he joined Coopers & Lybrand which later merged with Price Waterhouse.
Tim Lui Tim-leung, a PwC partner who worked with Mr Fong for 20 years, said he was well-grounded in listed companies and regulation since he specialised in initial public offerings and audits.
