Evanescence is not your average goth-rock band. A combination of Linkin Park and Tori Amos, the Arkansas band has gone multi-platinum by infusing melodic piano and thrashing guitars.

Their new album, The Open Door, follows the successful formula of their debut, Fallen.

The result is an unexpected mix of hard rock and classical sensibilities.

Standout tracks include Sweet Sacrifice, a dark, alluring piece featuring Amy Lee's soaring rock vocals and the band's signature heavy guitar sounds.

Another great track is Lacrymosa, a gothic piece inspired by Mozart's Requiem in D Minor.

Although most of the songs have dark overtones to their subject matter, the album ends with a piano ballad on a lighter theme.
