The sister of Macau casino mogul Stanley Ho Hung-sun said yesterday she hoped that the mastermind behind the August attack on Democratic Party vice-chairman Albert Ho Chun-yan would be found soon. The comments by Winnie Ho Yuen-ki, who is represented by Mr Ho in an ongoing legal battle between the estranged siblings, follow the arrest of five suspects in connection with the attack in a Central fast food restaurant.

Ms Ho said that she was 'very happy' over the arrests but added: 'Some people told me that the people who were arrested were not the real one. There is still somebody out there who is the mastermind. I hope that this case will continue to be dealt with.'

Police operation nets mainland swindlers

An operation by police from the mainland, Macau and Hong Kong has smashed a cross-border syndicate duping Hong Kong and Macau citizens. A gang of 12 mainlanders operating from Hubei and Guangdong were arrested. Nine were still being detained last night, Hong Kong police said. The arrests were made after seven people were defrauded of HK$1.12 million. They were 'appointed' distributors for silk and nylon products by a mainland company and then duped out of their money.
