Delegation urges curb on 'porn' movie bills
CHRISTIAN leaders yesterday pushed for urgent amendments to legislation concerning posters advertising pornographic Category III films.
Headed by Pastor Carver Yu Tat-sum, the group met Legislative Councillors yesterday to gather support for what they said was a simple amendment to the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance.
Mr Yu said posters were concentrated around Mongkok, Yau Ma Tei and Wan Chai cinemas, advertising films with illustrations and titles outlawed under existing legislation which was policed by officers of the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority and the police.
He said there was no requirement that posters for Category III films be lodged for classification with the Obscene Articles Tribunal.
''This is done on a voluntary basis. A simple amendment would make it law for the poster to be sent to the censors with the film it is advertising,'' Mr Yu said.
Many films being advertised have explicit names and promotional ''blurbs'' giving details of sexual or overly violent acts in the films.
