Pet practice
Anyone who has ever lived under the same roof as a dog knows that good training is what makes the difference between your pooch being man's best friend and his worst foe. Instruction can take many forms and commonly pets are sent to 'training farms'. However, their sensitivity to the environment can mean it's difficult for even the cleverest canine to adapt its 'summer-camp' lessons to the home setting.
That's why Sea Dog Pet Service, in Shau Kei Wan, has started a new programme to 'bring training to your doorstep'. The service is run by Tang Wai-lam, an experienced instructor who has won awards at a number of Hong Kong Kennel Club trials.
The training usually takes four weeks, with a one-hour home visit by Tang each day, Monday to Friday.
The basic course costs HK$3,000, during which your dog will be taught to 'stay' (not bolt out the door), 'sit' (not leap up on visitors) and get 'off' (not leave hair all over the furniture) - all by responding to simple hand signals. Perhaps most importantly, your dog will also learn to use its pet toilet. Another HK$3,000 will see your furry friend saluting, jumping through hoops and giving high fives.
