Mainland tourists expressed different views yesterday on who should be blamed for the system that forces them to shop. Ms Xu from Shanghai said she was cautious about the forced-shopping malpractice in Hong Kong. 'Our tour guide had not yet forced us to buy his souvenirs. But I think the travel agency should have taken a larger responsibility in the ditching incident [when a tour guide abandoned a group because they would not shop]. The tour guide was only following the instructions from his company,' she said. Xian tourist Cai Yixain had a similar view. 'The tour guide does not have much say in setting the schedule of the journey. The travel agency is to be blamed,' he said. But Ms Li from Hunan, on her first tour, said she was satisfied with the services provided. 'I think the tour guide has to take a large responsibility. Our tour guide is nice and he never forces us to buy anything we don't want, although I do have a list of souvenirs to buy,' she said.
