MODERN MOBILE technologies have greatly enhanced the efficiency of many corporate operations, ranging from basic services to sophisticated management. Apart from the government - one of the pioneer users of mobile communications - big and small enterprises have gradually come to value the magic of these inventions.

For example, a bank that subscribes to the short message service (SMS) technology can send the latest financial news and analysis to the mobile phones of busy customers whose fingers are on the pulse of the markets, even though they are out of the office or away on business trips.

Mobile operator CSL launched its services in 1983 and quickly became a market leader, offering comprehensive prepaid mobile and roaming services with worldwide coverage of more than 250 destinations. Today, it aims to meet the needs of different market segments under its brands: 1010 for corporate users; One2Free for teenagers; and New World Mobility for the mass consumer market.

At the cutting edge of mobile communications, CSL launched the first commercial General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) in 2000. The company introduced Asia's first Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) in 2002, and it was also the first in Asia to deploy Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) a year later.

The company launched its 3G service in 2004 with a high-quality integrated mobile network. In September, it launched the High Speed Downlink Packet Access, commonly known as 3.5G technology, together with the world's first HSDPA handheld.
