The examinations authority plans to release practice papers for the revised HKCEE Chinese and English language exams in March and will offer them to schools as mock exams for the first time.

The two papers will adopt a new format next year in the first stage of the introduction of standards-referenced marking ahead of the switch to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education in 2012.

A spokeswoman for Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority said the papers had been intended to familiarise students with the new format.

'A number of principals asked us if they could use the sample papers as their school's mock exam,' she said. 'We have notified all schools and they have until November 10 to inform us if they wish to use the tests in this way.'

The Chinese language tests are scheduled for March 6 and 12 while the English exams will be held on March 7 and 13.

Schools would be responsible for grading their own papers but marking schemes would be made available via e-mail the day following the exam schedule.
