Premiership leaders Manchester United have had a fairly easy ride so far, but their credentials will be put to a more serious test when they visit Bolton tonight. United have played only three of the top 10 in their first nine fixtures, so third-placed Bolton are tougher opposition. In their previous games against top-half teams, United have lost (against Arsenal), drawn (Reading) and won (Fulham). United have never lost at Bolton in the Premiership (four wins and three draws) but Bolton have led in three of the last four meetings at the Reebok, even though they failed to hold on. United are often at their most vulnerable in north-west derbies - six of their 13 failures to win last season came in 12 derby matches (though they won both games against Bolton). The draw rates highly this time. United's neighbours, Manchester City, provide the best-value bet in the Premiership. City's appalling away form continued at Wigan last weekend, but their home record still reads well and they are capable of beating Middlesbrough. Boro defended well to earn points at Arsenal and Bolton, but their overall away record remains unconvincing and this game is not as closely matched as the odds suggest. The other home picks in the Premiership are Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle, while Blackburn rate the best handicap chance at West Ham. The big match in the rest of Europe is the Milan derby. Milan rate highly for the win, having gone six games undefeated (four wins, two draws) at home against Inter. The worry is that Milan have struggled for goals since Andriy Shevchenko left. Third meets fourth in Serie A when Roma visit Udinese, and the away side rate one of the most solid handicap bets. Roma's away form is excellent with Francesco Totti in the side. The best bet in Spain is Valencia to win at Racing. Valencia's only dropped points this season have come on two tough trips (a draw at Barcelona and defeat at Celta Vigo) and should find it easier against Racing (only one point and one goal from three home games). Villarreal, Sevilla and Deportivo are other away teams to consider. In France it is worth risking Paris Saint-Germain at home to Rennes. PSG have been disappointing so far, but most of their dropped points have come against top-half sides. The big teams have fared well in the Champions League this season, and the same pattern is expected in the midweek games. All Ups should be built around Bayern Munich, Roma, Real Madrid, Lyon, Arsenal and Milan. Better odds will be found on away shots Valencia and Lille, while Benfica and Hamburg represent the best home chances at longer odds. Best homes: Paris Saint-Germain, Cardiff, Wolves. Best aways: Valencia. Handicap: Roma.
