Permanent Secretary for Education and Manpower Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun, who is expected to be named the new ICAC commissioner, yesterday said it was an appropriate time for her to change jobs.
A government source said the central government was considering appointing her as commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, because the post was a principal official's position that needed Beijing's approval.
An announcement would be made early this week.
Speaking on Commercial Radio, Mrs Law neither confirmed nor denied the rumoured job swap with ICAC commissioner Raymond Wong Hung-chiu.
'I have been working on education for eight years and I think it is an appropriate time for me to leave my post,' Mrs Law said.
She said her departure would not affect the pace of education reforms, as the blueprint had basically been implemented. But she said if she did stay, she would have to do so until the new system was fully implemented in 2012.
