What is it? A luxury Swiss skincare brand with natural botanicals from the Alps. The royal families of Monte Carlo and Saudi Arabia reportedly use it. It's sold in 10 countries, including Russia, Denmark, Japan and Norway, and has been in Hong Kong since last November. Its so-called hero products are pricey. Who's the founder? It was created by company director Carlo Sami just over a year ago in Switzerland. Sami has been in the skincare industry for 30 years. What's the spin? The range contains a complex called Edelgen, which has seven botanical extracts: edelweiss, butcherbroom, hydroctoyle, marigold, horse chestnut, panthenol and ammonium glycrrhizate. It's said to act as a protective shield against dry air and sun, and increases the skin's moisture. Edelgen also has a cooling effect to calm and soothe redness and reduce inflammation. Is it an anti-ageing product? Bellefontaine says it's not only for anti-ageing, but reduces the appearance of pores, hyper-pigmentation and skin discolouration due to sun damage or environmental pollutants. Are there other ingredients? The Up-Lifting Golden Serum (HK$2,390/30ml) contains soybean protein to stimulate the formulation of collagen and the cell-rejuvenation process, leontopodium alpinum extract, a mild purifying agent to remove and dissolve impurities, and moisturising agents such as sodium hyaluronate and glycerin. The Anti-Oxidant Vitamin C Drops (HK$2,520/50ml), suitable for all skin types, has pearl drop- shaped capsules that contain vitamin C to enhance skin lightening. It prevents hyper-pigmentation and reduces inflammation and irritation caused by the sun. It also includes squalene, found in human sebum, which provides enzymes for the cells. One component - mica - gives a luminous finish. The liquid has a powdery texture when applied to the skin, making it ideal for day-time use if you have an oily complexion. What other products are they and where can I buy them? The Pearly White-Perfection Serum (HK$$2,290/30ml) is said to have lightening, restoration and hydrating properties. Pearl Powder is a traditional skin- care treatment and is 'natural, precious resource, which ... contains 18 essential amino acids that enhances lightening'. If you really want to spend big, try the Elixir Beauty Essence Ampoules (HK$6,150/6x5ml), for mature skin. It's said to restore firmness and radiance to the skin. Bellefontaine products are available only at Harvey Nichols, the Landmark.
