THE first nightclub in Mid-Levels opened last night despite objections from more than 80 per cent of residents. Rickshaw Club at 22 Robinson Road was granted a club liquor licence by the Liquor Licensing Board yesterday to operate from 6 pm to 3 am. The club comprises a piano bar and cocktail lounge, fitness room and swimming pool. But despite the club's upmarket image, 50 out of 62 nearby residents surveyed by the City and New Territories Administration objected on possible noise and nuisance grounds. There is also some concern that an influx of licensed premises into Mid-Levels could hurt property prices. A number of licensed restaurants have opened in the area recently and another is planned early in the New Near.
