EYE CREAM
If you have ever studied the labels on your cosmetics, you may have noticed that certain eye creams and moisturisers from the same brand contain almost identical ingredients. Elaine Chui of the Paua Group explains: 'Some brands may have similar active ingredients in their eye creams and moisturisers, but the base is usually different. The molecular size of the ingredients in the eye cream must be very small or the cream won't get absorbed.'
Bobbi Brown representative Angie Tse says some face moisturisers may be too rich for the skin around the eyes, which is very thin and delicate.
Monica Shi of Dr.Hauschka says the brand's day creams can be applied around the eye area, but adds: 'Because of external influences such as pollution and weather, the delicate area around the eye needs extra protection and nourishment during the day.' By all accounts, an expensive moisturiser under the eyes does not replicate the effects of an eye cream.
Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Renewal (HK$1,480)
Three years in the making, the anti-ageing treatment contains four marine extracts said to be potent in making eyes look young. The collagen-boosting Padina Pavonica stimulates the production of glucosami-noglucans (which act as water reserves for tissue) and keeps skin moist, firm and elastic.
