The HKFA is planning to host a charity match during the annual Hong Kong-Guangdong Interport in memory of the late Henry Fok Ying-tung.

Chairman of the HKFA, Martin Hong Po-kui, said yesterday he would meet a number of key Asian football officials next week when they come to Hong Kong to attend the funeral of Fok, to be held on Tuesday.

'We have considered a number of options in memory of Fok's contribution to the development of football in Hong Kong, including hosting a charity match during the interport tournament as it was under Fok's initiative that the annual interport event came into being in 1979 to strengthen football ties between Hong Kong and the mainland,' said Hong.

'We will first discuss among ourselves when I meet the officials on Monday and then propose the idea to his son, Timothy.'

The officials include AFC vice-president Zhang Jilong from China and general-secretary Peter Velappan from Malaysia.

Fok was the president of the HKFA from 1970 to 1997 before being succeeded by his son Timothy Fok Tsun-ting. He was the Association's life honorary president before his death from cancer in Beijing last week.
