It seems like an unnecessary overstatement, but HP is calling its iPAQ PDAs a 'Mobile Media Companion', but that is what the company has chosen to do with its rx4500 series.

These days, it goes without saying that all new PDAs will play multimedia content, including videos, photos and music files.

So by definition, all PDAs are mobile media players, but given the number of iPods that Apple has sold, who can blame HP for trying to grab some of the market.

The iPAG rx4500 is based on the latest Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC and supports most multimedia file formats, as well as other basic applications like a Web browser and e-mail client.

In this way, the rx4500 is a pretty basic PDA, powered by an average processor from Samsung, running at a mediocre 400MHz.

Other basic features include a 2.8-inch, anti-glare QVGA display, 1GB ROM and 128MB RAM of internal memory, an SD card slot for memory expansion and integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
