Work hard, study hard, but play even harder is the mantra of Shirley Lee, a supply chain inventory manager at Woolworths Group Asia.
'[Doing this course was] very difficult,' she said. 'But I was able to manage to squeeze everything in through the creative use of time management.'
Ms Lee has a degree in purchasing management studies from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Linguistically inclined, she has also taken short courses in Putonghua, Japanese and Spanish. She has more than eight years of professional experience in supply chain management, sales and marketing, merchandising and product development, and international import and export trading.
'I decided to pursue an EMBA because I felt that I needed a stronger and more solid understanding of management theories and practices,' Ms Lee said.
'The case study and group discussion environment [offered by Ivey] would allow me to maximise my exposure to how other companies and managers deal with real life issues and situations.'
Ms Lee opted for an EMBA rather than an MBA because she wanted a learning environment that allowed her to gain more exposure and insight from individuals who were already operating at a corporate management level. These were people who had practical senior management experience that one might not be able to find at the MBA level.'
