Louis Braille by Margaret Davidson

Learning to read is a difficult business. Many children struggle with the process of learning letters and how they build into words, and not all adults are fluent readers.

So imagine how difficult this is for blind people. Yet many blind people can read books as fast as sighted people, thanks to a system called Braille.

What is Braille?

Braille is a system of raised dots on a page. Each letter of the alphabet is represented by a different pattern of raised dots. A blind person learns to 'read' these patterns by running their fingertips along the line. As we recognise letters by sight, so does a blind person - by touch. This book tells the story of the person who invented this method: Louis Braille.
