Updated at 2.27pm: A container truck on a ramp skidded forward and crushed its 58-year-old driver to death, police said on Monday. The driver had parked his car on a ramp inside a godown on Kiu Wong Street in Tin Shui Wai before the accident took place about 9.35am a spokesman said. He got out and went to the back of the truck to unload goods. But when the 40-feet long vehicle skidded forward, he tried to run back to the driving compartment to control his car. But the truck swerved to the driver?s side and crushed him against a wall, the spokesman said. Firemen were called in and spent about 20 minutes trying to free the man, local radio reported. The driver was rushed to the Tuen Mun Hospital but was certified dead at 10.16am, the police spokesman said. Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North were proceeding on Monday afternoon. The spokesman urged witnesses to the accident or people with information to call officers on tel: 2675-3325.
