Man, 77, linked to Albert Ho attack freed on bail
A 77-year-old man arrested in connection with the attack on legislator Albert Ho Chun-yan has been freed on police bail and ordered to report to a police station again on December 4. The man, surnamed Lau, is one of seven people to have been arrested over the beating of the Democratic Party vice-chairman by three baton-wielding men in a McDonald's restaurant in Queen's Road Central in August. He was detained on Friday while trying to board a ferry to Macau. A man, 56, and a 53-year-old woman arrested earlier were also released on bail pending further inquiries. Eastern Court has remanded the other four suspects in custody, and adjourned their cases until Friday.
Taxi driver in hammer case appears in court
A taxi driver accused of wounding a schoolgirl with a hammer appeared in Eastern Court yesterday. Ho Fu-tong, 37, entered no plea to a charge of wounding with intent in connection with the incident in San Ha Street, Chai Wan. Ho was remanded in custody for a week, pending further police investigation and an identity parade.
Reminder for those Born in 1927 to get smart ID
People born in or before 1927 have until Saturday to apply for a smart identity card. Applicants must submit their existing card in person at one of the department's smart identity card centres. An Immigration Department spokesman said anyone in the age group who fails to apply by the deadline will be liable for prosecution and if convicted, faces a fine of up to HK$5,000.
